Consultation & Commissioning Process

Consultation for Arrivals was to continue with various departments within Fife Council, local schools and residents, disability access groups and the railway companies Scotrail and Network Rail.

A series of workshops relating the “Fictional Landscapes” work were planned in four Dunfermline schools. Pupils were to be asked to compile a verbal map of their town. This was to be translated into Tamil, sent to the artists in Chennai, India who would interpret these maps creating the series of fictional landscapes.

The artist, Stephen Skrynka and City Design had been selected following a public tendering process. Their collaborative proposal was selected by committee and interview.

Outcomes

The proposed artworks were described as:
  • Underpass: railway underpass with illuminated mosaic
  • Flutter: kinetic artwork using obsolete flap type display boards
  • Fictional Landscapes: handpainted billboards in collaboration with billboard artists in Chennai, India
