Steering Group Applications

by shirley mcgregor, 10 Feb 2010

Thought it would be good to share these Steering Group Applications which were written by primary 5 and 6 prior to the project starting. All the applications were of a very high standard which of course, made choosing very difficult, Here are the five that were successful!

I think I would be a good member of the Public Art Steering Group because I have a passion for it. The good thing about what I like for art is that you can do it inside and outside and your imagination goes wild. I can be creative with lots of different materials, such as leaves, feathers, wood etc. I’ll try to listen to people’s ideas and then extend the idea. I like cooperating with people and helping them create something together. I would like our art to do something useful as well as looking nice. The idea of making art is great so that’s why I would like to do this art project.

I’m very interested in films, books and artwork. At Home I enjoy reading a large selection of books and often imagine how the story might be different; In my spare time I like to sketch in my A5 sketch pad and enjoy making patterns with my spirograph. I feel that I am good at sharing my ideas and also listening to other people’s ideas- you have to learn to do that when there are five in your family! I seem to get on well with other people. I’m always keen to take part in new things and I hope that I would be a helpful member of the Steering Group.

I think I would be a good member of the Public Art steering Group because I love being creative and I love making things up, love art and I have a clear idea of a sculpture including permanent benches and chairs which could be decorated. I would really like to be part of the art steering group because I have never been in a school group before and I am really interested in art.

I think I would be a good member of the Art Steering group because I enjoy art and I would like to help think of ideas myself, these are, we could put a big dragon mosaic outside the school on the ground or we could do the same but in the school playground and with children on it instead of a dragon. There is one more reason why I think I should be on the Steering group, because I like working with groups and improving things for Dunning.

I have made a lot of modelsi.e. a few robots, St. Serfs Church, a giant pencil, a rocket, Notre Dame and even a light house. I love drawing, especially cartoons. At times I do some realistic art pieces eg. cars, people, sometimes landscapes. I think some of the art work that would be appropriate for Dunning would be its history such as ; drawing the dragon, drawing things to do with St. Serf and maybe to draw the village when the Jacobites were around. I am good at working in a team and listening to other people’s ideas. I am also good at thinking of ideas. This is why I think I should be in the steering group.

These young people became the pupil voice in the steering group, after training they were equipped to be part of the recruitment process for the artist. they were actively involved in Fair Selection Training and developing the criteria for selection. They also helped to write the interview questions and were all on the interview panel.
