Welcome to Bridgeland

What is Bridgeland?

Bridgeland is dancing. Bridgeland is freedom. Bridgeland is yes. Bridgeland is alive. Bridgeland is infinite. Bridgeland is every bridge around the world. Bridgeland is now. Bridgeland is home.

Jodi Rose is a Berlin-based artist, writer, producer and creator of Singing Bridges, an urban sonic sculpture using the cables of bridges as musical instruments on a global scale.

Originally from Australia, Rose studied Sculpture, Performance and Installation at Sydney College of the Arts. Since 2002 she has traversed the globe from Helsinki to the Mekong Delta, New York to Glasgow in an endless quest for bridge music. Created using field-recordings, composition and improvisation, her fascination with bridge music has led to numerous collaborations with artists around the world.

‘Welcome to Bridgeland’ is the ceremonial opening of Bridgeland, a new meta-nation created by Rose, taking place on the South Portland St Suspension Bridge in Glasgow, on April 23rd for GI 2010. With local collaborators Guy Veale and Dave Tunstall, artist Jodi Rose will conduct a site-specific musical performance and inauguration ceremony to bridge sounds.

During the build up to Gi Jodi Rose will be keeping an ongoing Blog for PAR+RS, discussing the development of Bridgeland, and sharing her thoughts about the project and its broader context.
