Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea, is currently taking submissions for its 2009/2010 Artists Residency Programme.

Focal Point Gallery has funds from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to offer residencies to three artists during 2009 and 2010. This is a unique opportunity for each artist to spend a sustained period developing their practice within Focal Point Gallery’s supportive environment. It also presents a chance to create work that resonates with the complex social changes currently taking place in South Essex, and develop work with a critical response to the extensive regeneration process taking pace in Southend and the Thames Gateway. The length of each residency is three months and will take place between spring/summer 2009 and winter 2010. Each residency includes a fee of £3,000, and a further sum of £2,500 is available to cover production costs. Accommodation will also be provided. Selected artists will work towards a major solo exhibition at Focal Point Gallery in 2009 and 2010.
